How to Make IRS Payments
- IRS - Pay Taxes by Mail
- You may submit your federal taxes via mail by using a payment voucher which will be prepared and provided to you.
- Make Check Payable to: United States Treasury
- Amount of Payment should match the amount listed on the voucher
- Memo Line: Social Security Number, Tax Form and Tax Year
- Mail the check to the IRS address on the voucher
- IRS - Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)
- IRS - Make a Payment Using Direct Pay
- IRS Direct Pay is a convenient way to submit payments for estimated taxes, payments on tax returns or notices, amended returns, installment agreements, or extension payments for individual (not corporate) taxes from a checking or savings account. You should have your most recently filed tax return in hand as the following information will be requested prior to payment submission: Tax year, filing status, first and last name, social security number, date of birth, street address.
- If making a payment for Estimated Taxes - The “apply payment to” and “tax period for payment” fields will generate automatically.
- If making a payment on tax returns or notices - Select “1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ” and the tax period.
- If making a payment for an amended return - Select 1040X and the tax period.
- If making a payment for an installment agreement - Select “1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ” and the tax period.
- IRS - Pay by Debit or Credit Card
- Federal taxes can be paid with a debit or credit card via internet, phone, or your mobile device. Please be advised the debit card fees currently range from $2.55 to $3.95 and the credit card fees range from 1.87% to 1.99% with minimum fees ranging from $2.50 to $2.69.
How to Obtain an IP PIN
- Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN)
- An Identity Protection PIN is assigned to taxpayers to help prevent fraudulent use of their Social Security Number. It is important to note than a new IP PIN is generated for each filing season. As such, the IP PIN from a prior tax year will not work the following tax year.
